The blood pressure is the force that pushes on the arteries and veins’ walls, because the blood is flowing through them. At those that have high blood pressure this force is much higher than normal and in time this can damage the arteries and veins and cause heart attacks and heart diseases.

High blood pressure is a very common affection, more than 50 million people suffer from it only in the USA. Some call it the silent killer because it has no symptoms and you can have it for years without knowing, and if you don’t treat it for a long time then the chances that you get a heart disease or stroke are very high.

The causes of high blood pressure are not known, but the most common risk factors that lead to it are stress, the consumption of alcohol, tobacco, salt and fat foods. Those overweight usually have high blood pressure too.

It is very important to control your blood pressure as much as you can, before you reach an older age and you regret that you haven’t done it. High blood pressure can only be discovered if you constantly monitor your blood pressure and keep an eye on the values. If you see that the values are high then you need to measure them more often to see if they are increasing even more. Once you discover that you have high blood pressure you must start the treatment and continue to check the values to see whether it working or not.

You can check your blood pressure regularly by visiting the doctor and asking him to measure it. However, if you know that you have high blood pressure and you need to check it often visiting the doctor a few times a week is too time consuming. At those who have a very high blood pressure it needs to be measured a few times a day, so going to the doctor more than one time a day is impossible.

In this case you need to purchase a blood pressure monitor. It is a tiny device, as big as a cell phone that can be worn on the belt, and that is connected to a wrist cuff. The wrist cuff measures the blood pressure and records the values a few times a day. The doctor can make a chart based on these values and see how the treatment is progressing. The information provided by the blood pressure monitor is very valuable when you are trying to treat your condition.

The monitor and the cuff can be worn under the clothes so they are invisible to others. It’s very simple and very helpful, so try one if you have high blood pressure and need to know the values of your blood pressure.

If you go to any major gym or health club like 24 Hour Fitness, Bally’s, the YMCA, or even Gold’s Gym, you are going to see many elliptical exercise machines all over the gym. Elliptical fitness machines are quickly becoming the hottest trend in fitness today. Whether it’s at the gym or in the home, these machines are dominating the fitness industry today. It’s no wonder why either, elliptical fitness machines give you a great cardiovascular workout along with toning your muscles and providing several other conditioning exercises.

While these elliptical fitness machines can be found in every gym and health club in the country, there are many people who would rather work out in the privacy of their own homes instead. With such a wide variety of ellipticals on the market, the question comes down to trying to decide which one to purchase? How do you sort out the good ones from the not so good ones? After all, you want to get the best elliptical machine for your money, but you also want the best fitness workout and equipment reliability.

Due to the fact that specifications can vary widely between machines, as well as all the different price points, the decision on which fitness machine to purchase can be extremely confusing and difficult. Although price is a very important consideration, there are as many expensive elliptical machines that perform poorly as there are ones that work very well. The same can be said for the less expensive versions as well. Before you go out and purchase an elliptical fitness machine it would be wise to gain a basic knowledge of what to look for.

One of the better ways of educating yourself on ellipticals is to read many of the consumer reports in various fitness magazines. Magazines like Fitness Today always include reviews of the many different fitness and exercise machines on the market today. Another good way to get advice and recommendations is to simply ask for the opinions from others who use them at the local gym or fitness center. People love to give their opinions on everything in life and fitness is no different. Also, many health and fitness websites will have good reviews on fitness equipment posted by the various readers. You can find literally hundreds of these different websites by doing a simple search on the Internet.

It would be very helpful and wise to do your own research on elliptical fitness machines. Taking the advice of a salesman at the local fitness store may not be the best way to go. You may get some great advice and help, but then again you may not. By doing your own research you can discover what machine meets your particular requirements. You’ll also find all types of different prices online that may include a real bargain on the elliptical fitness machine you really want.

All of the different consumer reports on ellipticals can be quite helpful when it comes time to making a decision on which fitness machine to buy and one that is in the price range you’re looking for. Even though professional fitness reviews can be more detailed about specifications, etc., consumer reviews can often provide much better information. They typically include a wide range of opinions and first hand experiences on which elliptical machines are the best. If you keep these tips in mind, you’ll find the perfect elliptical for your needs.

Acne is the bugbear of the majority of teenagers and a number of adults too. In the U.S.A. alone, 17 million people suffer from acne.

I wish I?d known that comforting statistic when I was a teenager!

It begins when you?re a teenager and your body begins to produce the hormone androgen. This causes the over-stimulation of oil glands which in turn block pores and then, hey presto, a spot appears.

There are many ?cures? on the market some are good and work, some work only very temporarily and others just have pretty packaging.

If you had acne, it made you feel miserable and you?ve gotten rid of it, then all credit to you.

But this article goes out to all those people who can?t get rid of their acne and who are destined to suffer it for the majority of their schooldays.

I know how it feels because I was one of them.

Fact is, the majority of damage that acne does is psychological. Cries of ?spotty? and ?pizza face? at school don?t help and although eradicating the spots on the outside would cure this problem, it won?t cure the problem on the inside.

If you suffer from acne, the best thing to do is realise that it?s up to you whether you get upset about it or not.

When you can get through the day without feelings of paranoia, if you can build up your self-esteem even though you don?t like what you see in the mirror, then you have really conquered acne.

No one can change how you feel on the inside and you and only you control your thoughts and therefore your feelings.

So hold your head up high, realise you are a beautiful (or handsome) person, whether your hormones are playing havoc with you or not, and truly wipe the acne problem from your life!

Allergy is a condition in which the body tends to react due to hypersensitivity to some substance such as food, drugs, drinks, pollution, flowers, and others. An allergen could be anything under the sun that might cause a reaction in one?s body if the body disagrees with that substance. Even a common thing such as sunlight and air might cause sever reactions in some if the skin is susceptible to allergies due to the same.

People suffering from food allergies are many. Although most of these individuals do not have very severe reactions, some might find instant severe reaction to some foods. Most common foods that cause allergies in some people are the nuts, peanuts in general. Milk, soy, corn, and even rice etc., are a few other that might cause allergic reaction with no apparent reason. Some people are allergic to processed foods and other processed products. Although in a small percentage, even chocolate causes reaction in a few people. Food allergies mostly affect the immune system, respiratory and digestive systems, depending on the type of food that has been consumed. Seafood such as fish, prawns, shellfish, jellyfish etc., is another common kind that causes allergies in individuals. The best method to encounter the food allergies is to avoid intake of the kind of food that causes reaction in the individual.

Citrus fruits such as strawberries, raspberries, oranges, and others cause allergic reactions in most people. Itchiness, redness or blotchy face, irritation are common symptoms. Peanut allergy can also be very severe as it might even result in death by just a common contact with a peanut. An allergy test would prove to be very helpful in case of peanuts and even other nuts for that matter as they are most deadly of all allergies.

Flowers are one of the most beautiful parts of nature. However, even these can prove to be dangerous for people who are allergic to pollen formed in certain flowers. Pollen and even certain kinds of weeds and grass often affect respiratory system and cause severe damage. Individuals suffering from sinusitis must get the same under check to avoid further damage to the sinus. Periodic allergic checks can bring forward the exact kind of allergy the individual has and proper treatment can help a lot in the long run. Getting rid of plants with flowers around that individual might also help to a great extent. Of course this is only if the flowers have been detected as the actual cause of the allergy.

Certain drugs might cause adverse reaction to the patient resulting in complications. Irritation, swelling of face and body, breaking out into hives etc., are some of the well noticed symptoms but some drugs might cause internal allergies that take some time to detect and cure. Sulfur is used in most of the drugs that causes adverse reactions in people. The physician must get to know initially if the patient is allergic to any of the drugs before administering the same. Getting an allergy test done at regular intervals is a good choice if suspecting any allergies in the body.

Another common allergic reaction is caused due to metal. Most individuals are allergic to nickel. Even gold and silver cause reactions in some individuals although in a very small percentage. Metals lead to skin allergies. Individuals reacting to metals are liable to break into hives or the skin starts itching along with swelling in that area. Turning red or purple in the area coming in contact with the metal is another common reaction. Avoidance of such metals that cause reactions would be the best choice for individuals suffering from such skin allergies.

The insulin is a hormone used by the body in metabolizing carbohydrates and in regulating blood sugar (glucose) levels. Some times, from special reasons, there is insufficient insulin to complete the body’s need. Then diabetes occurs. Type 1 diabetes is when the body has a total lack of insulin and the type 2 is when the body does not make enough insulin or cannot properly use it.

Obesity, was long known as a leading cause of type II diabetes, but the high prevalence of childhood obesity could be the evidence that it possible accelerates the onset of type 1 diabetes in various young populations.

The most exposed groups of younger patients are those in which the production of insulin in the pancreas beta cells already had been seriously compromised.

Associated with higher body mass index (BMI), the pancreatic beta cell function is compromised and the body can no longer accomplish the additional metabolic demands. Scientists are still unable to explain whether reduced beta cell function is solely due of auto-immune factors or the non-autoimmune factors have their part of contribution.

On the other hand, studies in those young diabetes patients who still have a relatively well function of beta cells, revealed that there is no statistical association between age of onset and high BMI.

As a parent with an autistic CHILD, you want to do everything you can to protect your CHILD. We don’t want to place our CHILDren in circumstances that scare them, however, setting your CHILD up in a program or providing them with social activities can help them to learn how to manage their social anxieties.

First of all, when your CHILD is diagnosed with autism, research the symptoms that are associated with this developmental disorder. The more information you have, the better you will be qualified to deal with certain situations. It will also help to join a support group for parents with autistic CHILDren. You’ll find other parents will be willing to share their sources of information with you.

When you find a program for your CHILD, you’ll want to make sure it is appropriately qualified to deal with your CHILD’s social anxiety. Every autistic CHILD is different so you’ll want to make sure you are honest and up-front about the symptoms your CHILD displays. It’s also important to remember that the sooner you can get your CHILD enrolled in a program, the more significant difference it can make in alleviating their social anxiety.

Your CHILD’s program should include playtime where they will be able to learn to make friends and how to interact with others. This play activity is very important to getting over their social anxiety. The activities should include something fun. For example, having CHILDren play an appropriate aged-level board game. This can help your CHILD to learn how to interact with others.

Many CHILDren with autism have difficulty when it comes to understanding how another individual feels. This influences how they are able to interact with others. One way to help them with this is to use picture cards of characters with different facial expressions and posture. Once they understand how others may possibly feel by facial expressions and body language, they will more easily interact with others.

There are many things you can work on with your CHILD to help them manage the social anxieties they face. Most CHILDren with autism simply lack the ability to react to change in a calm manner. Your CHILD, if given the opportunity to become social, may simply wander off to be by themselves.

To be successful in helping your CHILD, the most important thing you can do is to be patient with them. Do not force social activities on them, however, make sure they are available. Whether it is sitting down to dinner with the family or going over to a friends house to play, you’ll want to do what you can to make sure your CHILD is as comfortable as possible. Talk to them and explain to them what is going to happen and where they are going. Try not to shove surprises on them, as you’ll need to prepare them for activities.

Your CHILD with autism can learn, with time and patience, how to handle different social interactions with others. As their parent, your job is to assist them with managing their anxieties by providing them with plenty of opportunities in which to adjust to a variety of situations.

Let’s start at the beginning with discussing what is Autism?

Autism is a disorder of the brain and one in every two and a half thousand CHILDren are born with it. CHILDren who are Autistic will show signs of being withdrawn from their environment and will have problems communicating. Often it is confused with Asperger’s Syndrome and, although similar in many ways, they are two different diagnoses.

Signs of Autism can be displayed in a CHILD as young as twelve months and it is usually prominent by the age of three. Autism is also called spectrum disorder or autistic spectrum disorder, and statistics show more males than females have been diagnosed with the neurological abnormality. Often, a CHILD can seem very normal until up to three years of age, then suddenly they begin to change as their speech and social development is impaired. They will exhibit strange behavior and movements, have trouble communicating, some even become deaf and mute and will not like being held. Some will move compulsively and prefer to occupy themselves rather than play with toys or people. Every case is individual, so each CHILD has a different combination of symptoms.

With communication being so difficult for those with spectrum disorder, it is common for their IQ to be below average. About a quarter of these cases excel in certain areas like math, art or music and their IQs are well above average. It is much harder to diagnose Autism in adults from any physical symptoms, but they have problems with understanding other’s feelings, forming friendships, recognizing fear and behaving appropriately in social situations. Often, they will be self-destructive in their habits and are unable to understand the consequences of their actions.

Asperger’s Syndrome is a mild form of Autism, with most of the symptoms being the same. Where Autism is clearly diagnosed by about age three, Asperger’s onset is usually much later. CHILDren with Asperger’s will prefer isolation, exhibit eccentricities, will have strange inflections in their way of speaking, can be uncoordinated and clumsy and single minded in their interests.

High functioning autism is where a person has been diagnosed with the disorder but is still able to continue with a relatively unaffected life. Asperger’s disorder is considered milder than this type of Autism, so they can usually maintain a fairly uninterrupted existence. Someone with Asperger’s may not be viewed any differently in society, but with Autism, they will be noticeably unique in their movements and speech and can have more trouble learning. This means they can experience more difficulty fitting in and possibly even discrimination.

There is no cure for Autism or Asperger’s and no way to return their normal functions and abilities. However, much progress is always being made in ways to manage the disorders. Speech therapy, special diets, music therapy, sensory integration, art therapy, behavior modification and auditory training are all ways to assist in handling Autism so they can lead a life as close to normal as is possible. Since it is specific to the individual, treatments are tailored to each case. Some may need drug therapy for hyperactivity disorders or anger control.

Having a CHILD with Autism can be very stressful and taxing on the family, so strategies for coping will be needed for all who are involved. Autistic CHILDren need extra attention and endless supplies of love and understanding. They never truly mature like most of us, but they will have a better chance of being independent if they receive the required training and support therapies.

Is your CHILD getting enough sleep? How can you tell and what can you do about it?

The National Sleep Foundation (NSF) released a survey which estimated that one-third of toddlers and preschoolers and nearly one in four school aged CHILDren aren’t getting enough sleep.

The consequences for lack of sleep are hardly unknown to parents who have themselves been victims of sleepless nights during the early CHILDhood years. But what are the specific problems that affect CHILDren who are lacking sleep?

SLEEP AND MEMORY:

In studies with adults it has been shown that a lack of sleep affects attention and arousal. We are all aware of the problems caused by drowsy drivers who have been at the wheel too long and veer off the road or cause deadly accidents.

In a study with CHILDren who were restricted in sleep they did not score as well on memory, attention and learning tests the next day.

SLEEP AND BEHAVIOR:

In an article on CHILDren and sleeping problems by Today’s Parent there was a quote from John Bates, a developmental psychologist. In two studies trying to find a link between sleep deficit and behaviour problems he stated that “it could be that sleep deficit causes the behavior problems or it could be that behaviour problems, and all that goes along with that, could make it harder for CHILDren to settle down for sleep, or that some unknown problem is causing both the sleep and behaviour problems.”

Whichever is the case he still claims that in some cases they have had success and achieved dramatic behavioral improvements simply by increasing a CHILD‘s sleep.

Although this should not be considered a solution for serious behavior problems, if your CHILD seems unduly irritable, over-active or cranky you may find putting them to bed an hour earlier will create a drastic improvement.

HOW MUCH SLEEP DO THEY NEED?

Each individual has their own needs, but generally speaking the NSF suggests CHILDren three to five should get 11 to 13 hours of sleep (including naps); five to 12 year olds need 10 to 11 hours and teens 13 to 18 should try to get 8.5 to 9.25 hours per night.

If you suspect a problem related to sleep then consider whether you notice if the problem is connected. Is your CHILD more irritable and cranky late in the day? Is she often hard to waken or difficult to get to sleep in the first place? Does she waken frequently during the night?

If you feel the issue is sleep related and putting your CHILD to bed earlier is not working, talk to your doctor about other steps you can take. It is a long term benefit to diagnose sleeping problems early on.

Are you the parent of a CHILD who is often depressed? Are you a CHILD who often feels down in the dumps and depressed? This article offers advice for both parents, other family members and CHILDren about how to deal with, reduce and even eradicate this depression.

I remember from my own CHILDhood having many periods when I was very unhappy and sad. I was the type of person who would let aspects from my life get on top of me which would at times affect my sleep patterns. I found growing up through CHILDhood, into a teenager and ultimately into my adulthood as one big choir and struggle. I was forever comparing my own life to that of my brother, sister and friends. Their lives seemed so much easier than what mine was and this made me feel quite jealous of them.

Looking back one of my faults was that I was not willing to discuss my worries and fears with my parents and basically kept them bottled up inside of me. This meant of course that I had to deal with each and every issue (problem) on my own without any outside help or advice. I wish that I had been more open with my family as I think my life would have been that much happier if I had.

I am now a parent of two CHILDren myself and am always looking out for them. I try and gage how they are coping with life and if I feel that they are in an unhappy period or mood, I then attempt to find out what is causing this by trying to talk to them. They are not always happy to discuss these issues but I then make sure that they understand that I will be here for them when they are ready to open up. I talk to them about my own CHILDhood and about the mistakes I feel that I made by keeping my own worries to myself.

I want my CHILDren to realise that they can talk to me about any aspect of their life and that I will be here to help and not judge them. Life in general, with school as an example, can at times be quite tough, with things such as bullying affecting a lot of CHILDren. There is the added pressure of examinations and also trying to establish ones self within a group of friends. Moving schools and going through all of the bodily changes can also be quite uncomfortable for many CHILDren.

As a family we try to make our CHILDrens home life as enjoyable and relaxed as possible. This includes many family days out and where financially possible, a family holiday abroad in the summer.

My advice to any parent who has an unhappy or often depressed CHILD would be to be very patient with them through these periods. I, as I have already stated would try and get them to talk about what is making them feel in this way and if they do not want to talk, would let them know that I am there for them if they do ever want a chat etc.

My advice for a CHILD who is feeling depressed would be to talk to your family, a friend or a teacher. They say that a problem shared is a problem halved and I really believe in this statement. You do not have to be alone in this world and the advice that you are given could be of huge benefit to you. Despite what you might think all CHILDren have problems and worry about many different aspects of their own life. Your parents were of course CHILDren many moons ago and may have experience in the issues which you are not happy about. Do not make the same mistakes that I did by keeping these problems to yourself as it does not help to reduce your fears or depression.

CHILDrens Omega 3

Parents need not look specifically for so-called “CHILDrens omega 3 supplements” to get their kids the best product.

A label is merely a label — often just used for marketing purposes to appeal to a niche, in order to drum up sales.

You must judge a product on its merits despite who it’s advertised for. Before we discuss what criteria you should look for when deciding on CHILDrens omega 3, let’s talk briefly about its importance.

Omega 3 fatty acids are vitally important for our diets, and most of us in the Western world are deficient in these nutrients.

The reason CHILDrens omega 3 supplements are in especially high demand is because toddlers and kids are still growing. Because the brain vitally requires copious amounts of omega 3 fatty acids in its developmental stage, and because many kids are lacking in omega 3′s — just like us adults — concerned parents are trying to give their CHILDren the best start to life possible.

This is precisely the reason I myself started to look for a high quality CHILDrens omega 3.

Choosing a Quality Product

The best omega 3 source hand’s down is fish oil. Fish oil is preferable to vegetable and plant sources like flax seed. The reason is because in plant sources like flax seed, the omega 3 comes in ALA form which must be converted by the body into the other two crucial omega 3 fatty acids, called DHA and EPA.

This conversion does not always happen efficiently, which means getting DHA and EPA directly from fish oils is the best bet.

Just how important are DHA and EPA? Well, almost 60% of the brain’s mass is fats, and half of those fats are DHA!

In short, DHA and EPA are crucial for optimal brain functioning and development.

CHILDrens Omega 3 Supplements

However, if you want to use fish oil as a CHILDrens omega 3 supplement, like I do myself, then you should watch out for a few things:

1. You must only buy purified fish oil products. This is simply because much of the fish in the world harbors toxins due to contaminants in Ocean waters. This is regrettable, but it’s a fact of life nonetheless. Purified fish oil products should use a process called molecular distillation which removes all contamination and leaves only the pure fish oil rich in omega 3 to be used in the products.

2. You must understand that not all fish species yield equally high amounts of omega 3 fatty acids — DHA and EPA. I have personally discovered a fish oil supplement product that I use myself and also have my CHILDren using daily that contains naturally high DHA and EPA. You can learn more about this below. But just understand here that not all fish oils will give equal quantities of these omega 3′s.

3. You should only buy what are called “pharmaceutical grade” fish oils, which are the highest quality products on the market.

Having said all of this, you should also understand, as we alluded to in the beginning, that there is no such thing as “CHILDrens omega 3 supplements” per se. This is just clever marketing.

If you pick a good CHILDrens omega 3 it will work for adults as well, and visa versa.

Now, it may be true your CHILDren are too young to swallow typical fish oil sized capsules. But, if such is the case, then you may do what I do personally for my kids: I simply cut gently into the fish oil capsule and then squeeze the contents into their meals, giving them their needed omega 3 fatty acids without need for swallowing capsules.

This also helps you determine the amount you are giving them.

The bottomline is that I give my CHILDren the same omega 3 fish oil supplement that I personally take myself, only in smaller amounts.

Once I was satisifed from extensive research that I had found the highest quality, purified fish oil on the market, it was only a matter of making sure my kids could also use them without having to worry about swallowing them.
